I haven't done a Nail of the Day, in a very long time, but since purchasing so many different polishes recently, I've been doing my nails quite a lot over the past couple of weeks, so I decided to share one look with you. This one I absolutely love, and it is just so darn cute! Plus, with nicer weather finally hitting these shores, after what felt like an endless cold winter, it's nice to have something summery and cheerful :-)
What They Look Like: Quite simply, this look is a red background, with two cute little strawberries in white on all fingers, except the pinkie fingers, on which I only used the smaller of the two strawberries.
Base Coat: For the Base Coat, I used ELF's Light Red Nail Polish, which I reviewed about a month ago. It's a really gorgeous colour, but effectively most shades of red will work perfectly for this look. The brighter, the better though I think.
Special Polish: For anyone who has never tried Konad before, I strongly recommend using the proper Konad special polishes, because despite what some people think, they're not like normal polishes, they're actually much thicker, and dry quicker.
I've attempted to use other polishes, including ones that have thickened, because they're a little "past-their-best", but I've just had so many problems with smudging, that I personally think that it's not worth it. Generally, if you have a black and white, initially, you'll be fairly set, and then build up a collection of colours, as-and-when you need/want them.
For this look, I used the white polish, that came in the Konad Special Set. I loved the way the white looked against the red. With some base colours, the white can seem overpowered, but I really felt the red and the white worked beautifully together.
Image Plate: I used Image Plate 55, which I again got from the Konad Special Set. The only time I have ever tried this plate before, was when I first got Barry M's Block Orange nail polish, and I attempted to do a similar look to this Strawberry one, but with an orange. However, unlike the Red, the Orange colour did not make the white picture look so great, so I've never shared it.
I've circled the exact image that I used, but to be fair, it's pretty obvious!!
Finising: I finished the look off, using a general, clear Top Coat. Konad recommend using their Top Coat, but on this one, I don't think it really matters. What does matter, in my opinion, is that you use one. I tend to find, from experience, that the image is less likely to come off, if you protect it with a Top Coat.
And here's a closer look. It isn't perfect, or neat, but I honestly don't think that it needs to be. I know a lot of nail artists will disagree, but imagine if we were perfect, you'd be out of your jobs hehe :) :
