The picture above comes from the official Rimmel London website, and although there are six shades pictured, there are actually only four currently available (we can only assume that the other two will be winging their fruity little selves into shops across the nation at some point). So, the colours currently available are:
- Cranberry Zest
- Apricot Punch
- Strawberry Fizz
- Lemon Drop
Initial Test: Initially, I just tested the polish on my thumb nail, and after waiting ages for it to dry, I couldn't really smell much at all. It kind of smelt lemony, but the odour was incredibly faint and barely noticeable at all. So, following the practice nail, I wasn't feeling too otimistic.
Full Nail Test
Brush: I'm really glad that Rimmel are sticking with the wider brushes, because I have to admit that I'm really liking it. It makes painting my nails so much quicker, which is great. Unfortunately, and maybe this is just me, but I had a hard time getting the brush of this specific polish not to leave my nail looking really streaky. I expect streaks on the first coat, but it was a little annoying having to do a third coat on several nails to get rid of the streaks. Most of them still don't look that great either.
Colour: The yellow is an opaque, pastel shade and actually a lot brighter than I was expecting. They really stand out, but look kinda weird against my skin tone, and I really don't think that this colour suits me at all, which is disappointing. Despite that the colour is very summery; perfect for the time of year.
Scent: Whilst I was applying the polish, I couldn't help think that it smelt more like bananas, which my boyfriend also commented on (without me even asking him!) which was a little bit strange. Applied to all of my nails, rather than just one, I could smell the lemons much stronger, although at first it was sort of like the smellof Sherbet Lemons, or even Lemon Pips, it eventually turned into a more chemical-based lemony smell that I wasn't too keen on, and eventually made me feel a bit sick.
Purchase again? Probably not. I don't understand the logic at all behind fruity scented nail polishes. I just don't understand why you'd want them smelling like that. I did wonder initially if it was to get rid of the yucky strong smell that polishes are infamous for, but it doesn't, because you still get that smell whilst your applying it, and the fruit scent doesn't come through until the polish is actually dry.
Overall: The colour is nice, just not on me. And the smell is quite disgusting.
